Erin Brockovich

Andi Zeisler describes pop culture as a being of its own kind.  It is everywhere one may turn, popping up on any type of medium like television, computers, books, and radios.  It is constantly engulfing people into the ways of the modern media and culture.  It is seen by the masses and is addicting to some.  Feminism plays a broad role in modern pop culture and women are always playing huge roles in modern times and in the media.

One women in particular, Erin Brockovich, very well describes the struggles of women in pop culture and how difficult it is for feminists to strive.  The movie released in 2000 called Erin Brockovich shows the struggles that women constantly face in that they are very underestimated and are seen by many men to not have the capabilities to be as powerful or intelligent as men.  Although at many points she didn't just use her intelligence and wit, she had to use her femininity thus showing that women are strong and underestimated and that all the objectification that goes on through modern media portraying women as nothing but sheer dolls or eye candy for men is completely incorrect and does nothing disregard the advancements of modern culture.

  2. The specific pop culture item Jag is talking about is Erin Brockovich. The main idea of the post is that feminism is very apparent in pop culture, and someone who portrays feminist struggles is Erin Brockovich. Jag does offer support for this idea by descriving her struggles, however I think he should go into more detail. To answer, his question, I think this does fit the topic we're discussing in class, but I don't really know who Erin Brockovich is, so maybe you should expand on that and describe who she is. Also, you could post a picture of her to add to the visual elements.

  4. Whereas other people in this blog wrote about how women are misrepresented in the modern pop culture and contradicts the fact, Jag shows an example of where a woman stepping up to stand in the same position as a man. The main idea, using Erin Brokovich as an example, is that women are struggling to change the modern pop culture. Jag supports his thesis by describing her struggles as Alannah mentioned above. It could really be better if Jag posted a visual example of who Erin Brokovich is and a link to a web showing who she is.

  5. This definitely seems like a good example that does fit the topic, but I haven't actually seen the movie. For myself, at least, I would want a little more detail about the movie, maybe just a little more storyline to get a grasp of what you are trying to relay.

Jag is using the movie Erin Brockovich as an example. His idea is that the movie shows how women have to constantly fight a lot of stereotypes present n today's society. He gets his point across well. I think more detail would add a better idea of who she is and what kind of situation she is facing. A movie cover could be a nice enhancement for anyone who has interest in watching the movie.

  6. I agree on your group members posts about the need for detail as to who Brokovitch is, why she's significant, and what she actually *does* that makes her feminist in your opinion. Images or actual clips would help as well.
